Instructions for Cataract Surgery:
Before Surgery
1. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
2. If you are using medications for your blood pressure or heart: take your scheduled medications as early as possible on the morning of surgery with only a small sip of water.
3. Continue to use your prescribed eye drops as scheduled.
4. Wear comfortable clothing on the day of surgery.
5. Do NOT wear makeup, hearing aid, jewelry or other valuables on the day of surgery.
6. You MUST have a driver to and from surgery and your driver must stay at the surgery center at all times.

After Surgery
1. Wear your shield over the operated eye at all times, including during bedtime, until instructed to discontinue.
2. Return to your normal diet. Progress slowly, if needed, from ice and water to clear liquids to bland foods to normal diet. Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours.
3. Resume your daily prescription medication schedule.
4. Take your eye drops as instructed.
5. You may watch television and read.
6. Take Tylenol for pain as needed.
7. Do NOT drive, operate heavy machinery, or participate in activities requiring full mental alertness until given permission by your doctor.
8. Do NOT bend, stoop, lift heavy objects (greater than 10 pounds) or perform strenuous activity.
9. Return to see your doctor the day after surgery for your post-op visit. Please bring your post-op kit along with any eye medications to your visit.
